Did you miss the April 18th deadline to file your tax return? You can still Efile your taxes…

April 18th was the deadline to file your 2021 tax return, except for Maine and Massachusetts residents whose deadline was April 19th due to the holidays. However, for those who missed the deadline to file you still got until October 17th, 2022, to electronically file your taxes. Whether you are expecting a refund or think you might owe the IRS/State, you must file your tax return. Here is why:

Are you expecting a Refund?

Don’t let the IRS stay with your money… You might qualify for a lot of credits and deductions for 2021 taxes, and you might not even know it. You still have time to claim your money and get your taxes in order. The IRS only allows you to claim your refund within three years of the tax return’s original due date, but why should you wait any longer when you can claim your refund right now?

Are you avoiding to file because you will owe money?

Not filing taxes or skipping a year is illegal if you meet the filing requirements. You will face penalties and interest for not filing on time and for not paying by the due date, aside from civil and/or criminal penalties for not filing at all. The IRS can go back 6 years or more (in certain circumstances) to check your tax history and make sure you are in “good standing.” So, skipping a year or not filing at all is not the best option for you. If you owe and can’t pay it in full, just know there are options for you. You may qualify to set up a payment plan with the IRS and/or State.

Did you file an Extension Request?

If you filed an extension request, Form 4868, to delay filing your taxes for any reason, you have until October 17th, 2022 to efile your taxes. Although the extension buys you some time to file, you are required to pay your tax liability by the original due date, April 18th, to avoid any penalties and interest for not paying on time.

Whatever the reason might be, Ztax can help you resolve the issue and obtain your refund or even work with you to avoid paying penalties and interest on your tax liability by setting up an installment plan with the IRS/State.
